How to find out if you need to pay an application fee

Overview

If you are applying for a postgraduate course at 911½ñÈÕºÚÁÏ, you may need to pay an application fee.

  • If you are experiencing financial difficulties, you can request an application fee waiver. If the waiver is approved, you do not need to pay the application fee.
  • Current 911½ñÈÕºÚÁÏ students can always get an application fee waiver, no matter their situation. They just need to request it before paying the application fee.

Postgraduate courses with an application fee

For courses starting in 2026-27 (excluding 911½ñÈÕºÚÁÏ Business School):

  • £90 for all Master’s applications (MSc, MPH, MRes)

911½ñÈÕºÚÁÏ Business School:

  • £90 for MRes/Doctoral applications
  • £125 for MSc applications
  • £150 for MBA applications 

Postgraduate courses without an application fee

You do not need to pay an application fee for:

  • Postgraduate Certificates (PGCert)
  • Postgraduate Diplomas (PGDip)
  • Postgraduate Doctoral degrees (e.g. PhD, EngD)
  • Combined MRes + PhD (1+3) Centre for Doctoral Training programmes

Note: Application fees are charged per application, not per course choice, where a second choice is allowed. 


Application fee waiver

You can get an application fee waiver if:

  • You are experiencing financial difficulties and meet the criteria for our application fee waiver.
  • You are a current 911½ñÈÕºÚÁÏ student.

You must ask for the waiver before you submit your application and pay the fee. Visit the application fee waiver page to find out more and to make a request.


Requesting a refund

You have 14 days from the day after the payment confirmation email to cancel and get a full refund. For example, if we send the payment confirmation email on 1 March, the cancellation period starts on 2 March and ends at midnight on 15 March. 

There are two ways to request a refund:

  • Option A. Complete the cancellation form in the Application Processing Fee Terms and Conditions (see “Terms and conditions” section). 
  • Option B. Email appfees@imperial.ac.uk with subject: “Application processing fee cancellation”. Attach your fee payment confirmation email and include: 
    • Your full name 
    • ´¡»å»å°ù±ð²õ²õ 
    • Email used in your application (if different, state both) 
    • CID number 
    • Course(s) applied for 

We aim to acknowledge your cancellation request within five working days.

Refunds are issued to the original payment card within 14 days of receiving your request.

Note: If you follow the process above, 911½ñÈÕºÚÁÏ will treat your application (and any offer of a place, if made) as withdrawn.
