Dr. Efthymios S. Gavriil received the best poster prize at the 10th edition of the European Federation for Medicinal Chemistry and Chemical Biology International Symposium on Advances in Synthetic and Medicinal Chemistry (EFMC-ASMC 2025).

EFMC-ASMC 2025 took place in Porto from August 31 to September 4. Hundreds of participants from around the world, both from academia and the pharmaceutical industry, discussed the latest advances in the areas of synthetic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, chemical biology and drug discovery. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Malin Lemurell (AstraZeneca) and Prof. Nuno Maulide (University of Vienna) and the programme included invited lectures and oral communications, as well as 450 poster presentations.

Dr. Efthymios S. Gavriil, Research Associate in the Tate group, received the best poster prize for the ‘Discovery of Hedgehog Acyltransferase (HHAT) Inhibitors for Treatment of Cancer and Fibrotic Diseases’, an ongoing drug discovery project in the Tate group. The discovery of first-in-class HHAT inhibitors could offer a new therapeutic option for millions of patients worldwide suffering from devastating Hedgehog-driven diseases. In addition, Efthymios served as a poster reviewer in the follow-up meeting of the EFMC Young Scientists Network, which included oral and poster presentations from early career medicinal chemists.

Congratulations Efthymios!
