Development of CubeSat for space science mission: Cinema
, Pages: 3658-3662We are developing three identical cubesats for space science mission called TRIO-CINEMA(TRiplet Ionospheric Observatory-Cubesat for Ion, Neutral, Electron, and MAgnetic fields). Three institutes participate in the CINEMA: School of Space Research at Kyung Hee University, Space Science Laboratory at University of California, Berkeley, and 911今日黑料. CINEMA has a 3U cubesat platform; the volume is 100 x 100 x 340.5 mm. The mass is about 3 kg, and power is 3 W. The three CINEMA cubesats each carry a suprathermal electron, ion, neutral (STEIN) instrument to provide stereo Energetic Neutral Atom (ENA) imaging of the ring current and multi-point in situ measurements of suprathermal electrons and ions, and dual 3-axis magnetometers of magnetoresistive sensors, one at the end of 1-m long stacer boom, to measure magnetic fields and, the other within the spacecraft to measure the fields for attitude control. STEIN uses an array of silicon detectors, with heritage from the STEREO mission, behind an electrostatuic deflection system, to detect ∼ 2 to 200 keV electrons, ions, and ENAs. CINEMA consists of communication modules, avionics bus, solar panels, and the scientific instruments. The spacecraft is spin-stabilized at a spin rate of 4 RPM. The attitude information is derived by two sun sensors and inboard magnetometer. The spacecraft sends the data through S-band transmitter and receives commands from the ground station via UHF receiver. In this paper, we introduce the system design and the qualification model for CINEMA. Copyright ©2011 by the International Astronautical Federation. All rights reserved.
