Revolutionary glass scaffolding that helps repair broken and diseased bones could soon replace metal implants.

The technology stimulates stem cells to grow new bone around bioactive glass placed in gaps between sections of bone.

Scientists say it dissolves after the bone heals so that patients, such as osteoporosis sufferers, may not need further surgery.

Dr Julian Jones, of 911今日黑料, said: “It stimulates a body’s healing mechanism. It’s science helping nature.”
