HexMat researcher Zebang Zheng wins first prize

HexMat researcher Zebang Zheng wins first prize for best scientific content in this year's 911今日黑料 College Materials Postgraduate Research Day.
Zebang’s work addresses the problem of cold dwell fatigue in aero-engine titanium components. He has established new discrete dislocation plasticity techniques which allow for slip transfer at grain boundaries. The example in Fig. 1 shows the resulting stress development in a Ti polycrystal when slip transfer is permitted. The prize was awarded by the Head of Department, Professor Peter Haynes (Fig. 2).
