Research activities
Dynamics research focusses on the aeroelasticity and structural dynamics phenomena in turbomachinery. Particular strengths are:
- modelling of aero-engine unsteady flows and associated phenomena such as rotating stall and surge
- prediction of blade and component vibration resulting from excitation in, or interaction with, unsteady aerodynamics: flutter, forced response, buffeting
- the influence of nonlinear interfaces on the vibration of structural assemblies
- the integration of hybrid experimental and analytical technologies in modelling complex machinery structures
Much of the research is undertaken through the Rolls-Royce Vibration University Technology Centre, which has about 15 full-time research staff and 30 research students. For further information visit the website.
