Course Overview
This welcoming, practical course offers a continuous and supportive introduction to making art. Designed as a rolling learning experience, it explores a rich variety of subjects, artistic movements, individual artists and creative techniques through a learning-by-making approach.
Each term focuses on a different artistic style, technique, or genre, giving you the opportunity to develop confidence, deepen your understanding of artistic processes, and build a personal creative ‘toolkit’ of practical skills.
The course is ideal for complete beginners, while also offering fresh inspiration and new directions for anyone wishing to continue their creative journey.
This term's theme: Toolkit for Botanical Drawing and Painting
This term's course introduces you to the beautiful and absorbing world of botanical art. You will explore the techniques, materials and visual traditions used by artists and scientific illustrators to study plants and flowers, while also discovering how botanical imagery has appeared across different artistic cultures.
Through guided exercises and practical demonstrations, you will strengthen your observation and drawing skills, learn a range of painting techniques and materials, and develop greater confidence in representing natural forms. The course will also help you expand your personal artistic toolkit, whether you are completely new to drawing and painting or returning to creative practice after a break.
Above all, this course invites you to slow down, look closely and enjoy the extraordinary variety and beauty of the natural world through drawing and paint.
This is an adult education course open to everyone. No previous experience is necessary.
The maximum group size for this course is 14 participants.
